Pilot Helps Victims of Sexual Assault

The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) pilot improved access to care for victims of person crimes or abuse, more than half of which are InterCommunity Health Network Coordinated Care Organization (IHN-CCO) members. This pilot developed pathways within the Samaritan Health Services (SHS) system through in-person education of SHS clinic and Emergency Department staff and physicians.

Ultimately, the SANE pilot reduced wait times for patients, created a follow-up process to ensure patients received appropriate care and educated the medical community and the community at-large about sexual assault. The SANE program continues to work out of Samaritan Albany General Hospital, serving Benton, Lincoln and Linn Counties. It also provides community education and works with schools to teach the public and youth about this resource.
